Introducing; Mephisto Genetics!

New to Mary's Seeds; Mephisto Genetics.
A group of breeders, dedicated to creating the very best feminised autoflowering strains around.

Relatively new to the market, Mephisto Genetics are making huge waves with their connoisseur grade genetics, and their incredible breeding ethos.
Mephisto are 3 guys from the UK; Mitch, Tim and Bill. Together, they are creating some of the best beans we've ever seen make their way into Mary's collection.
Bred using their combined years of knowledge, and dedicated hard work; Mephisto cut no corners to bring you fast flowering, high yielding, top shelf autoflowers.

In 2012, the Mephisto team took the plunge and moved their breeding programs out of the closet and into the fields! Though they may have upsized, the care and attention used in their breed methodology has only increased!

Mephisto breed all of their stock from scratch, no single-generation breeding of Lowryder autoflower with photoperiod over here; it's all back to the roots! Taking beloved photoperiod strains from photo to auto, one step at a time.
First they grow out in-excess of 50 photo plants, selecting only a handful of the best. These are then further refined through another breeding period to guarantee only the most vigorous and high yielding plants are used.
After this stage they begin introducing the Autoflowering traits, the strains go through numerous extra breeding cycles that ensure genetic stability, and guarantee their seeds are the best.
Some auto strains are known for their lower potency and yields, but not Mephisto. These extra steps ensure strains maintain the high THC and killer yields of their parents. Most strains in the Mephisto line-up with gift you with ATLEAST 1g for every 1cm of height the strain reaches!

All of Mephisto's seeds are created via hand pollination, no mass manufacturing, just care and attention at each step. Not only does this given them complete control over their breeding, but they never pollinate more than 50% of a seed bearing mother. This is to ensure it puts all of it's energy into creating the biggest, strongest beans around.
They pollinate earlier, and grow their plants out longer, to guarantee the maturity of their seeds.
All seeds are dried within the plants slowly for several weeks, separated, dried and then chilled until the highest germination rates occur with testing.

Tangie Ghost Train; Legend in waiting!

The guys over at Rare Dankness Seeds and DNA Genetics have knocked it out of the park with this collaborative little number!

Breeding two award winning strains, Tangie and Ghost Train Haze #1, under the name of 'Little Chief', we have here a strain preped and ready to become legend; Tangie Ghost Train.

A rapidly flowering, sativa-dominant hybrid with the very best properties of both parent strains; it's everything you could ask for.
With vigorous growth, the plants can, and do, double during the flowering period! And with monster yields, this strain requires support when grown. The smell is another beast altogether; a powerful 'Tangie' citrus at the for front, with a diesel fuel chaser, elements of both 'Tangie' and 'Ghost Train Haze #1' shine through in this hybrid sativa. Flavours of rich tangerine dominate the pallet.

Dripping in trichomes, the resin production of this strain is up there with some of the best hash strains.
This sea of THC crystals is broken up by bright orange pistils, giving it great bag appeal.

High THC, massive taste and heavy yield; it's all right here!

Truly a strain ready to go down in the history books as one of the greats.
Stocks are extremely limited, so don't delay.

Buy Tangie Ghost Train Cannabis Seeds at low prices and as both singles and in packs!

    Mary's Top 5 Hash Strains.

Looking for a strain positively bubbling with resin and massive yields?
Well take a look at our short list.

We've searched high and low to find the best strains for making hash, bubble, shatter, charas, you name it!

    5. Hashberry by Mandala

A highly resinous strain, with plenty of 'frost' on it's sugar leaves and bud sites. Preferred growth is outdoors, with ideal temperature this strain can yield an impressive 1000g! Plenty of classic hashy bud.

    4. Black Jack by Sweet

Adapted for indoors, this strain can produce high yields indoors.
It's Black Domina heretage ensure a highly resinous plant, while the Jack Herer side delivers a potent high.

    3. Mazar x White Rhino by World of Seeds

The Afghani/White Widow genes within the White Rhino deliver not only highly potent resin, but a bushier plant with more compact bud sites; meaning more buds per plant, and more resin!
Couple this with the legendary Mazar I Sharif genes, and you'll need buckets to catch the resin bubbling off this strain!

    2. Time Wreck by TGA Subcool

To say this strain has impressive parentage would be an understatement.
By combining 2 already potent, resinous strains (Blood Wreck x Vortex), TGA Subcool has created an icy looking beast.
With THC clocking in at a mighty 26.7%, and a low CBD of 0.1%, this train has no breaks!
Long sugar leaves create even more surface area for resin production, with resin spilling onto even the larger fan leaves.

    1. Apollo-13 BX by TGA Subcool

Subcool must be doing something right, appearing twice on our list this fella knows how to push a strain to it's limits.
Surprisingly not the highest yielded on our list (but still very high), this strain is about quality as well as quantity!
Renown for it's 'Red Bubble Hash', this strain is best for connoisseur quality hash. A strong yet manageable high with great taste, it's the perfect pickmeup.

    What is 'in' Cannabis?

A guide to Cannabis compounds and their medicinal & recreational benefits.

It used to be that when most people thought of cannabis, it conjured images of a recreational plant.
All that has started to change over the past 10 years, and has become ever more apparent this year.

    With more medical users than ever before, regulated sales, and more countries reforming their archaic drug laws, there is a higher demand to know;
    What is in cannabis?

Cannabis (specifically the flower or bud) is made up of Cannabinoids & Terpenoids, each one having a variety of effects.
Cannabinoids aren't exclusive to Cannabis (they're also found in breast milk, and no, you can't smoke milk), and Terpenes can be found everywhere with a strong odour, more on those later.

    Cannabinoids and Terpenoids

    Cannabinoids
Cannabinoids make up the bulk of the recreational and medicinal effects of cannabis.
They work by imitating 'endocannabinoids', a compound already present in the human body. These compounds all work hand in hand towards maintaining stability and good health with-in the human body.
The manner in which they interact with the human body is so fluid and streamlined it has lead many to believe that our evolution coexisted along side that of the cannabis plant.

    THC (Δ8 & Δ9-Tetrahydrocannabinol)
Lets start with the original star of the show! THC.

THC creates the strong, psychoactive effects we all commonly associate with cannabis.
Up until recently, THC was a heavy focus for breeders; for years they've been perfecting the perfect high.
THC in noticeable dosages can be used to treat; pain, insomnia, nausea, stress and lack of appetite.

But let's have a look at the lesser known puzzle pieces that make up this well loved plant.

    THCA & THCV (Δ9-Tetrahydrocannabinolic Acid & Δ9-Tetrahydrocannabivarin)
Try saying that after a rip!

The big brothers of THC; THCA & THCV, only occur in trace amounts in your garden variety strains, but they are responsible for much stronger, shorter highs.
These tend to lead the energetic short highs, right before the heavier long lasting THC stone, but have fascinating medical properties!

They help to reduce unwanted cell growth (think cancer and tumours) while increasing bone growth. Inhibit both spasms and seizures; and reduce appetite.

Now we begin on the CB's. All the CB's are low to non-psychoactive, but that doesn't make them any less important.

    CBC (Cannabichromene)
CBC, a trace element in the overall puzzle, but a key piece. CBC is primarily a calming cannabinoid, great for treating stress, anxiety and depression.

But, like most of the building blocks of this beloved plant it has it's other uses, proving to be anti-bacterial, anti-viral, anti-inflammatory and stimulates bone growth.

    CBCA (Cannabichromic Acid)
This is both anti-fungal and anti-inflammatory, only found in trace amounts, but every little helps right?

    CBD (Cannabidiol)
Other than THC, it's likely that you'll have come across CBD before.

Due to its large amounts present in cannabis CBD has been studdied in greater detail and we know a lot more about it; as a result some breeders have began work on CBD heavy plants, reducing the THC and aiming to create purely medicinal strains.
Not only is it a non-psychoactive cannabinoid, it also combats the effects of THC.
This is great for medical users, but for those looking for a truly 'strong' strain, they need to look for lower CBD levels when stacked up against the THC.

(A plant with 22% THC might seam like a monster, but with a CBD level of 3%, a stronger high would come from a strain with 17% THC and a 0.01% CBD level)

CBD is extremely soothing, and can aid in the treatment of anxiety, insomnia and stress.
As well as aiding mental illness it has a profound effect on the physical body, showing great promise in treating pain, fitting, and shakes; it has already shown to reduce the suffering and debilitating effects of ailments such as arthritis, epilepsy and multiple sclerosis.

    CBDV (Cannabidivarin)
    An anticonvulsant, this cannabinoid is know to reduce seizures and fits;

it's also a bone stimulant, making it great for those recovering from physical injury or recovering from the effects of an illness, or treatments such as chemotherapy.

CBG & CBGA (Cannabigerol & Cannabigerolic Acid)
Another trace cannabinoid, CBG is found to stimulate positive cell growth in both the brain and in bones. This, combined with its retarding of malignant cell growth, has lead researchers towards it's uses in treating many brain conditions, from accident recovery to brain disease.

    It's also anti-bacterial.

    CBL (Cannabicyclol)
Exposure to light can convert CBC to CBL, while it retains most of its properties, some of the calming effects are reduced.

    CBN (Cannabinol)
Normally found in trace amounts in cannabis, it's quantity increases as THC decreases. This means that by increasing the flowering time of the cannabis it's quantity can be increased.

It's one of the main contributing factors towards that sedate, 'couch lock', feeling; this makes plants with higher concentrations great for treating insomnia and stress. It's also an antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and is a great pain reliever.

    Terpenoids (Terpenes)
The easiest way to describe terpenes would be their use in many 'essential oils' and 'aroma therapy'.
Many strong odours we associate with their relaxing, or uplifting effects; this is caused by their terpenes; but they also have medicinal effects too.

Terpene knowledge isn't beyond the reach of the regular Joe though. Without the use of any equipment, other than your own nose, you can at least get a rough understanding of what medical effects lie with-in that baggy of yours.

There are many terpenes; below we will discuss those with strong medicinal properties.

Myrcene (Hoppy, Earthy, Green, Citrus, Fruity, Mango, Mint)
The most prominent of the terpenes found in cannabis, Myrcene can be typically recognised in nearly all strains (though it appears in much higher concentrations within Indica strains)
It has a strong sedative effect and is a very effective muscle relaxant; it's high levels in Indica strains have lead to their characteristic heavy stone.
This also makes it an effective sleep aid.
It also blocks the actions of many pro-mutagens, leading to decreased risk of tumours and cancer.

Myrcene works in synergy with THC, widening the channels and aiding in the absorption of THC (and other terpenoids) by the brain.

Myrcene can also be found in mangos, hops, lemon grass and East Indian bay trees. This is where the common believe that eating a mango before the use of cannabis will increase the high. It does work, but with fresh cannabis the myrcene levels are already quite high, so it's best to do this with older/lower quality cannabis (and only if cannabis use is legal where you are).

    β-Ionone (Floral, Berry)
    High anticancer activity and anti-fungal.

    a-Pinene (Pine needles)
A pine like odour, also found in herbs such as rosemary and sage.
It aid's in the transition of compounds through the blood barrier, and also widens airways. This means the cannabis compounds pass quicker and easier into the system and the brain, creating the 'rush' smokers have come to know.

It promotes memory retention and alertness (great for treating ADD/ADHD) as well as aiding in the preventative loss and restoration of memory cells.

To top it all off pinene is also anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial.

    Linalool (Lavender, Spice)
The most powerful sedative of all the terpenes and highly potent in odor.
It relaxes the muscles, lowering the frequency and intensity of spasms and shakes,
as well as reducing anxiety and stress.

Linalool increases the activity and receptiveness of serotonin in the brain, combined with the above effects this creates a happy high, perfect for combating depression.

β-Caryophyllene (Spicy, Woody, Black Pepper, Cloves)
In high amounts it's known to lower blood pressure.
It's also anti-inflammatory, aiding those with arthritis, and protects cells in the digestive lining, helping to reduce feelings of sickness and relieve IBS.

    Limonene (Tropical Fruit, Citrus)
One of the most prevalent terpenes in cannabis stains, limonene is a bit of a wonder terpene.
It works to protect the digestive linings, reducing acid reflux and stomach problems.
Proven to fight cancer in lab tests, and destroy pathogenic bacteria such as tuberculosis. It's also know to improve mood, making it effective as both an anti-anxiety and an antidepressant aid.

It shares Myrcene's ability to open the receptive barriers in the brain, increasing the effective medical uses of cannabis as well as increasing the high.
Limonene and Myrcene can be found in high levels in lemongrass and very high levels in lemongrass oil (more than the amount found in 10 mangos in a single drop)

It's also highly replant to insects and highly anti-fungal. Leading to 'Lemon' strains and their outdoor growing popularity.

    Bonus Terpenoids for growers
If the germination of cannabis seeds is legal where you are, these terpenes have great characteristics to aid your crops.

    Citronellal (Lemon, Lime)
Highly repellent against insects and very strong anti fungal.

    Nepetalactone (Cat Urine)
Extremely strong insect replant, the most repellent of all terpenes found in cannabis strains.

Hopefully we've expanded you're knowledge of this great plant and given you all the info you need to educate others on our favourite wonder of nature.

We have to give a huge shout out to 'Seaf0ur' over on the International Cannagraphic boards, for compiling research papers, and writing an extremely detailed and well informed post; from which we have created a, hopefully, easy to understand and accessible article.
